7,500kg jatka seized at Karwan Bazar

Rapid Action Battalion today seized 7,500 kilogrammes of jatka and fined 11 people Tk 5000 each for selling those at Karwan Bazar wholesale fish market in Dhaka, Rab sources said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-2 in association with the fisheries department conducted a three-hour raid at the market since 4:00am and seized the jatkas (Hilsha fry), Maruf Ahmed, operation officer of the Rab-2, told The Daily Star.

The seized fishes were later distributed to nearby slums and orphanages, the Rab official said.

The fishes were brought to the wholesale market from different districts across the country.
