One killed in Mohakhali brick fall

A woman was killed while a pedestrian critically injured as some bricks of an under construction building fell on them at Mohakhali in Dhaka today.

Afia Begum, 60, a bagger, died on the spot when eight to ten pieces of bricks fell on her from fourth floor of the under construction  multi-storied building at T&T School Road, police said.

Mustakin, a pedestrian, also sustained serious injuries, Abu Bakkar Siddique operation officer of Banani Police Station told The Daily Star.

On information, law enforcers visited the spot but found no one in the construction site as owner and workers went into hiding immediately after the accident, the police official said.

The building owner did not ensure any safety measures for pedestrians before starting construction work of the building, the Siddique added.
