Kissing a camel sparks dispute, call for divorce in KSA

A huge family dispute erupted in Saudi Arabia after a newly-wed man's mother accused her daughter-in-law of breaking religious and social traditions by kissing a camel, and pressured her son to divorce his wife.

The incident took place at the home of the man's family home located just west of Saudi Arabia's capital city Riyadh, reports Afghanistan-based news service Khamaa Press.

The wife, however, insisted that the kiss was innocent and spontaneous.

She also accused her mother-in-law of using the incident as an excuse to attack her as she is yet to give birth to a baby and insisted on moving back to her parents' home.

According to Khamma Press, the husband reportedly returned his wife's belongings to her family the day after the incident took place when she apologized to him and explained she had done nothing wrong "and only kissed the camel to express her delight at the camel's birth."

Meanwhile the situation intensified as the man refused to divorce his wife and decided to take her back home despite his mother's accusations against her and threats to disown him, reports Gulf News.

He said that he believed his wife did nothing wrong.

The wife agreed to return to her husband, but refused to live with his mother in the same house.

"I love my husband and want to be with him forever," his wife reportedly said. "But I am not ready to live with his mother again."

The couple is currently living at the wife's home with her family.
