Halt all on-arrival visas

Home ministry reminds authorities

Due to the pandemic, visa on-arrival for citizens of all countries has been suspended since June last year. Nevertheless, many foreign nationals are still arriving at the airport and applying for on-arrival visas.

Amid this situation, the home ministry on Thursday sent a letter to civil aviation and tourism ministry and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, reminding them of the suspension.

To prevent Covid-19 infection, the government first announced the suspension of all on-arrival visas in Bangladesh from March 15 to March 31 last year. Later in June last year, duration of the suspension was extended for an indefinite period, said sources at Dhaka airport.

However, issuance of visa on-arrival continued for only foreign investors and businesspersons.

Asked, HSIA Executive Director Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul-Ahsan told The Daily Star that they got instruction from the home ministry to abide by the ongoing suspension.
