The malware which was used in the attack on Biman's email server was the first of its kind found in Bangladesh, Biman officials claimed.

"The malware attack on Biman's email server is called zero-day attack, which the IT officials and investigating officials of Digital Security Agency have not seen before," a Biman official told The Daily Star.

Wishing anonymity, the official quoting the agency officials said all the file extensions and file sizes on the server remained the same after the attack.

The agency officials are trying to find out the sources of the malware and this needs further investigation, the official said.

If a hacker manages to exploit a vulnerability that has no fix yet, the vulnerability is known as a zero-day attack, according to websites.
