Collision between Biman Boeings: “Negligence of those in charge to blame”

State Minister for Civil Aviation Md Mahbub Ali today (July 27) said the collision between two aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on July 3, was due to the negligence of those in charge.

However, he said, the ministry is investigating the incident thoroughly whether any other factors are involved in this regard.

"Whatever the reasons for this incident are, those responsible will not be spared," the state minister also said.

The junior minister said this while talking to reporters following his surprise visit to Biman's aircraft hangar and GEC Department at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Mahbub Ali said four people involved in the collision between the two aircraft have already been temporarily suspended.

"Further action will be taken as per the recommendations of the inquiry report. The rules will also be amended to realise the financial cost due to the damages to the aircraft from the responsible persons," he also said.

While talking to respective officials of Biman during the visit, Md Mokammel Hossain, secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, said the accident did not take place only due to negligence but was a crime.

The wings of the two aircraft were damaged due to the collision between a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and a Boeing 737 aircraft.

"It was nothing but a crime. This cannot be tolerated anyway. Stern actions will be taken against the persons involved in this accident," he added.

He warned that Biman's operation will be stopped if any such incident occurs in the future.

In response to another query from the journalists, the state minister said that no irregularity will be tolerated in Biman's recruitment process.

"I have taken action against the irregularities in the previous appointment after assuming the office. At present, the Anti-Corruption Commission is working to take action against those responsible," Mahbub Ali said.

"There will be no violation of rules in the current recruitment process in Biman. Allegations regarding current recruitment are being thoroughly investigated," he said.

Biman has paid all its annual liabilities since 2019 and is currently in a profitable position, the state minister added.
