There is no scope to file a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict that upheld death penalty of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, said Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.

"I don’t think there has any opportunity to seek review against the verdict," the attorney general said adding that a similar petition was filed against the death penalty of another war criminal Quader Mollah but it was dismissed by the Appellate Division of Supreme Court later.

Ruling out the defence's decision of filing the review petition, Alam said, "The trial is being held under a special act (The International Crimes (Tribunals) Act-1973) which is a constitutionally protected law."

People of Sohagpur village in Sherpur will be happy with the verdict against Kamaruzzaman, he also said.
