IDCOL awards the winning architects of ‘IDCOL Tower’ design competition

The conference room of Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) hosted the award giving ceremony of an open architecture competition in the lovely evening of 5th April 2019. To select the architectural consultant and design for their green building, IDCOL with the cooperation of Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), arranged this competition. More than 60 architectural firms participated in the design contest where the 9 best architectural designs were selected as per the policy of Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB).

The program was inaugurated by a recitation from the holy Quran. After that, the winners gave a brief summary of their winning ideas. The chief guest of the event, Mr AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul, director of IDCOL board, spoke about architecture from a creative dimension. "Architecture is everywhere. When I had visited Egypt, the architecture of the pyramids enthralled me completely. But, we need to keep the geographical location in mind before designing. Our country has a lot of fault lines, so earthquake factor should be kept in mind," he remarked.

Mr Jalal Ahmed, President of IAB, presided the ceremony. In his succinct speech, he painted a holistic picture of the competition. He said, "The best part of the competition was that there was no discrimination between seniors and juniors. Everyone had an equal opportunity to showcase their creativity. For this reason, this type of contests should be held a lot more, because this is the best place to showcase your talent."

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr Mahmood Malik, Executive Director and CEO of IDCOL. "Although IDCOL is a government-owned financial institution, we promote investments in private sectors significantly. What makes IDCOL unique is that we always think about long-term plans. At present we are concentrating on green infrastructure. The competition was amazing. I hope the participants who didn't win take lessons and prepare themselves for the next opportunity," he remarked.

Mr SM Monirul Islam, Deputy CEO and CFO of IDCOL and Mr M Maftun Ahmed, Company Secretary of IDCOL, were also present during the ceremony.

Demands of eco-friendly and energy efficient buildings are on the rise and IDCOL, by achieving a LEED Platinum certification as a certified Green Building, plans to set itself as an example.
