Singapore, Tokyo, and Hong Kong rank top 10 in EIU Safe Cities Index

Despite several Asian cities topping the index over the years, Denmark's capital Copenhagen has been named the world's safest city in a new wide-reaching study by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

Copenhagen has been named the world's safest city for the first time, scoring 82.4 points out of 100 in the EIU's Safe Cities Index.

Asian cities of Singapore, Tokyo, and Hong Kong are among the top ten on the list.

The index is based on digital security, health security, infrastructure, personal security, along with environmental security, a new category for this year. A total of 60 cities from all over the world have been included in it.

With 82.2 points, Toronto, Canada is ranked second on the list. With 80.7 points, Singapore is in third place. In addition, Australia's Sydney is in fourth place, and Japan's Tokyo is in fifth place.

Sixth and seventh are Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Wellington in New Zealand. Hong Kong and Melbourne of Australia are jointly at eighth. Swedish capital Stockholm is in tenth place.

New York was the highest US city on the list, sharing the 11th spot with Spain's Barcelona.

Washington DC was close behind in 14th place, while London and San Francisco tied at 15th.
