‘My son has finally returned, but lifeless’

Family members, relatives and neighbours were mourning as the body of Hadisur Rahman, third engineer of the Bangladeshi ship "Banglar Samriddhi", who was killed in a rocket attack at a Ukraine port on March 3, reached home this noon.

Our Patuakhali correspondent visited Hadisur's home this noon, where a shroud of grief enveloped the ambiance, with near and dear ones of the deceased mourning the untimely demise.

"My son has finally returned, but he is lifeless," Hadisur's father Abdur Razzak wailed.

"Who will look after me now? I have lost everything," Hadisur's mother Amena Begam lamented.

A Turkish Airlines flight, from Istanbul, carrying Hadisur's body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12:06pm, Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Hasan, executive director of the airport, told The Daily Star earlier in the day.

Hadisur's younger brother Golam Maola Prince accepted the body at Dhaka airport and then returned home in Hosnabad Kadamtola of Betagi upazila in Barguna, said Hadisur's uncle Maksudur Rahman, also Betagi Upazila Parishad chairman.

The deceased will be buried at the family graveyard beside his grandparents' graves tomorrow after his namaz-e-janaza at 10:00am, Maksudur Rahman added.
