The demand of mouthwatering juicy strawberries in our country is met usually by imported strawberries. But the strawberry lovers of our country need not have to depend on the imported ones anymore. Now they can taste fresh strawberries grown locally as strawberry production has started in different areas in the country, albeit on a small scale. Faruk, a farmer of Rangunia upazila in Chittagong has cultivated strawberry this year. Strawberries of his farm are now being sold in the fruit shops in the posh areas of Chittagong city as well as in the shops of Rangunia. Packed in two different catergories big and small, his strawberries have already created a high demand in the markets of Chittagong. Next season, Faruk hopes to cultivate the fruit on a large scale in Rangunia where most of the farmers grow tobacco. Following Faruk’s success, many tobacco farmers of Rangunia are now showing interest in cultivating this luscious fruit.
