Mahmudullah Riyad’s St Kitts and Nevis Patriots stumbled to their third defeat in this season’s CPL as they lost by six wickets to Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Chris Gayle started proceedings gallantly for the patriots as they raced to 62 runs without losing a wicket in the Powerplay. Gayle powered his 27-ball 40-run knock with four fours and three sixes but was removed by Keemo Paul in the eighth over, as he smashed a cut straight to backward point. Evin Lewis fell six balls later to Imran Tahir. Paul, who bowled two overs for just seven runs was a surprise absentee from the attack after he had bowled the 10th over of the innings. However, Warriors took regular wickets to slow the run rate. Mahmudullah, who came in at number five only managed to score four runs off six balls before falling to Tahir, who finished with four wickets for 22 runs. Ben Cutting struck 19 off 9 deliveries at the death as Patriots posted 169 for six.

The best contribution from the top five in Warrior’s batting lineup came from Jason Mohammed who struck a 25-ball 36. It was Sohail Tanvir’s 20-ball 37 cameo that helped Warriors pull themselves over the line with one delivery to spare. Riyad bowled four overs, conceeding 28 runs while also picking up the wicket of Cameron Delport.
