Rani Hamid regains title

WIM Rani Hamid regained the National Women's Chess Championship title after seven years when she beat WFM Zakia Sultana in the ninth and final round at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall room yesterday.

Hamid, who last became champion in 2011, secured eight points from nine games to ensure her 19th National Women's Chess Championship trophy. Hamid's only loss in this year's tournament was to Protiva Talukder while she won the remaining eight matches.

WFM Nazrana Khan Eva became the runners-up on seven points after losing to Jannatul Ferdous in the final round.

Noshin Anjum, Jannatul Ferdous and Kazi Zarin Tasnim finished third, fourth and fifth respectively through tiebreakers as they all secured 6.5 points each. In the final round, Noshin beat Kiswara Shajrin Evana, Zarin bat Munia while Jannatul lost to Walifah Ahmed.
