Jhilimili hosts exhibition of artworks by street children

Jhilimili, a volunteer project run by the students of Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka aims to give underprivileged children a chance at education. The student-run organisation held an art exhibition on August 11, 2018 at the EMK Centre in Dhanmondi with the venue as the sponsor for the event. The exhibition included drawings made by the children who are tutored by the volunteers at Jhilimili.

"The name of the exhibition is Shoishob as we want everyone to appreciate the identity and presence of street children in our society, who are being deprived of their rights of having a normal childhood. As part of our aim to provide street children learning experiences, we gave the street children a place around our DU campus some colouring materials to express themselves. We did this by enlisting the children into several groups led by a team of volunteers to guide them," said Shabnam Sharmin Swarnali, a spokesperson of Jhilimili.

"Our main purpose of holding this event was to preach the idea that every child has the right to have a colourful and happy childhood, which often is a luxury for the underprivileged kids of our society. Given a paper and some crayons, they can also explore their latent creativity and innovativeness," Shabnam added.

The event also included various activities for the participants where they got to relive their childhood memories through crayons and pencils.
