SEU arranges orientation ceremony for Chinese students

Southeast University (SEU) organised an orientation programme for newly admitted 15 Chinese students from Yunnan Minzu University in Bangla Department, on July 31, 2018 at its permanent campus at Tejgaon, Dhaka.

Presided over by Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, VC of SEU, the ceremony was attended by Yang Yuanchun, wife of the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh as the chief guest. M. Kamaluddin Chowdhury, Representative Member of BOT, SEU Trust was present as the guest of honour.

Prof. Dr. Lu Fang, Deputy Dean, Yunnan Minzu University and Feng Xiaorong, Secretary General of the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh, were present as special guests at the programme. Among others, officers from Embassy of China; Members of BOT, SEU Trust; Pro-VC; Registrar; Deans; Chairmen; Directors; teachers; officials; members of OCAIB; and students of SEU were also present. At the end of the discussion, a cultural programme was organised with the participation of students from both the universities.

 

IUB organises seminar titled "Building a Global Career in MNCs"

A seminar titled "Building a Global Career in Multinational Companies" was held at Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) on July 30, 2018 at its campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The seminar was jointly organised by the Career Guidance and Placement (CGP) Office and Independent Managerial Society at IUB.

Aasim Tajwar Matin, Regional Implementation Manager of Citibank N.A., Malaysia made the keynote presentation in the seminar. While speaking in the session, Matin suggested the students for a. for networking within the organisation; b. always being updated, and c. making themselves competitive for being prepared to build career in the multinational companies. 

The programme began with a welcome address given by Farzana Hafiz, Career Counselor, CGP while the vote of thanks was delivered by Iftekhar Mahfuz, Lecturer, Department of Management, IUB.

The presentation was followed by an effective Q&A session participated by a good number of students. Members of the faculty and management and IUB students from different disciplines attended the event.

 

 

IUBAT National Collegiate Programming Contest 2018 comes to a close

National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC-2018) was held on August 3-4, 2018. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DCSE) of IUBAT hosted this year's contest while ICT Division and Bangladesh Computer Council remained as organisers. IUBAT NCPC-2018 was inaugurated by Zuena Aziz, the Secretary of ICT Division.

In total, 447 contestants of 149 teams from 72 universities, two colleges, and one polytechnic including three teams of female contestants participated in the contest.

Dhaka University's team Epinephrine became champion of NCPC-2018; BUET's team Awww! became first runner-up and Dhaka University's team zuccbot.exe became second runner-up in the contest.

VC of IUBAT Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab presided over the prizegiving ceremony. The event started with welcoming address by the Dean, College of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Dr. Md. Monirul Islam. This was followed by speeches by notable guests like Engr. Enamul Kabir, Director of Bangladesh Computer Council (Training & Development); Prof. Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, Head of the NCPC-2018 Steering Committee; and special guest Prof. Dr. Falguni Gupta, Regional Contest Director of ACM ICPC (India).

 

EWU student receives Prime Minister Gold Medal

East West University (EWU) student Afifa Binta Saifuddin received the prestigious Prime Minister Gold Medal for her outstanding academic results by the University Grants Commission (UGC) Bangladesh. Afifa completed her graduation from the Department of Pharmacy in 2017. She achieved a CGPA 3.99 out of 4.00. She also attained the Gold Medal in the convocation of EWU this year.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented the gold medal at a ceremony on July 25, 2018 at the PM Office. On the occasion, 163 students of public and private universities of the country were all awarded medals. From more than 100 private universities of the country, only two received gold medals.

The Chairperson of the BOT, EWU, Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, and VC Prof. Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan congratulated Afifa for receiving the prestigious gold medal.

 

 

AIUB holds seminar on "Justice for All Programme"

Department of Law, AIUB and USAID's "Justice for All Program" held a strategic dialogue at the campus of AIUB at Kuril on July 25, 2018.

Joan Bishop, Court Administration Expert, New Hampshire, USA shared her experience on law students' engagement while focusing on the US Legal System. Kazi Yasin Habib, Assistant Director, National Legal Aid Services Organization delivered a speech on legal aid services by the government. He also described how the legal aid service has gained widespread success within a short period. There was a lively Q&A session where students of the Department of Law posed questions regarding legal aid for transgender and labourers from Bangladesh who are working in foreign countries.

Prof. Dr. Taslima Monsoor, Advisor, Department of Law, AIUB gave the welcome speech. Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences was also there and gave concluding remarks, and among others Director of Public Relations and Legal Affairs Md. Lutfar Rahman was also present.
