Reminiscing a true patriot

In memory of the first prime minister of the country Tajuddin Ahmed, a photography exhibition with rare images of his life and works is now on at Gallery-21 at Dhanmondi in the city. The exhibition was inaugurated on July 23.
As part of the 88th birth anniversary celebrations the gallery has organised the two-week long show.
Professor Emeritus Dr. Anisuzzaman (president of Bangla Academy) inaugurated the show as chief guest. Trustee of Public Health Centre Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury was special guest. Elder daughter of the late political leader Simin Hossain Rimi MP, columnist Syed Abul Maksud and artist Shamim Subarna (director of the gallery) attended the event.
The speakers spoke about Tajuddin Ahmed's life and contribution to the country. The speakers praised Tajuddin as a true patriot, who was involved in politics and social welfare activities from his school days. They also noted his determination in overcoming many challenges and dangers during his key role in the Independence War. A life cut short by his assassination, Tajuddin did not live long after the country's independence to see through his dream come true, the speakers said. But they expressed their belief that despite his short tenure as Prime Minister he will remain an important figure in history for his long and dedicated work in the country's political stage.
The images features places, personalities and objects connected with Ahmed. Photographs of Tajuddin in the company of national and international personalities, friends and admirers capture some memorable moments in his life.
Ahmed was born at Dardaria under Kapasia in Gazipur on July 23, 1925 to Moulavi Muhammad Yasin Khan and Meherunnesa Khanam.
Ahmed was instrumental in forming the Provisional Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, popularly known as the Mujibnagar Government, during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
After the independence of Bangladesh, Ahmed served as Finance Minister until 1974. After the assassination of President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in August 1975, Ahmed was arrested by the military government and executed by a group of renegade army officers in Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, 1975.
The exhibition will continue till August 8.
