Elite Land Ltd authorities in a rejoinder contested a report published on The Daily Star on April 30 under a headline “Elite City housing project in Ctg illegal: HC”.
The rejoinder, signed by Elite's Managing Director Md Mamun Chowdhury, claimed that the High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed delivered a verdict declaring the project legal.
The verdict came on April 29 following a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela) last year challenging the legality of the project's operation, starting in 2011.

Upon receipt of the rejoinder The Daily Star contacted Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman and Bela's lawyer Iqbal Kabir Lytton.
Both of them confirmed that the HC disposed of the writ petition, which does not mean that the HC declared the project legal. The full text of the verdict is yet to be released, they said.
