Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has alleged that the opposition by issuing ultimatums and using Hefajat-e Islam hatched conspiracies to topple the government.

She said national and international plots are on against Bangladesh as the country has different natural resources and "we have made a maritime victory."

"For this Bangladesh has been under the spotlight of different quarters," premier said at a meeting of the Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) at her official residence Gono Bhaban on Friday evening.

Hasina, who heads the governing AL, has called for strengthening the organisation.

She said those who will take the leadership of the party in the days to come have to contribute more to the party.

The ALCWC, the highest policy-making body of the party, sat for the meeting to discuss the latest political situation.

Syed Ashraful Islam, general secretary of the party, greeted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of her May 18 home-coming day.

On this day in 1981, Sheikh Hasina returned home from India after about six years in exile following her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members assassinated on August 15, 1975 by a group of army officers.
