Outlaw jailed for life, another held

Member of an outlawed party was sentenced to life term imprisonment in an arms case here yesterday.
Convict Md. Hares Sardar, 40, is son of Badu Sardar of Dhanuaghata village in Pabna.
According to the case,  acting on a tip off, law enforcers caught Hares Sardar, an operative of now defunct Naxal Bahini, at Joydebpur intersection of Gazipur district on March 16 in 2008.
Following the statement of Hares, they seized six firearms, including four shutter guns of the outlaws from a field in the village on March 17.
A case was filed with Faridpur police station accusing him of possessing illegal arms.
In Satkhira, police arrested leader of an outlawed party  from Islamkathi village in Tala upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The arrestee was identified as Khairul Sarder, second-in-command of Biddyut Bahini of the outlawed East Bengal Communist Party of the upazila and son of Abul Sarder of the village, reports UNB.
Officer in-charge of Tala police station Enamul Haque said, on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area at about 4.00pm and arrested Khairul.
