Only talks can resolve crisis: Syed Ashraf
Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam has said the ongoing crisis can only be resolved through talks with the opposition.
“Dialogue is a must. There is no alternative to dialogue,” Ashraful said while talking to reporters after placing a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi on the occasion of the historic March 7.
Ashraful said, "A dialogue can help us to find out a way for holding an acceptable general election."
Jamaat is continuing violence across the country by putting gun on the shoulder of BNP, which is a bad omen for the nation, he said.
A countrywide movement began on February 5, hours after Jamaat assistant secretary general Abdul Quader Mollah was sentenced to life in prison for rape, killing and genocide in 1971.
Protesters have been demanding capital punishment to Mollah and all other war criminals.
To protest the verdict, Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir men started violence across the country.
They became furious after Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee was sentenced to death on February 28 for his wartime offences.
Over 70 people were killed in violence committed by Jamaat-Shibir since Sayedee was awarded the death penalty.
