Remarks Against PM on Facebook

NU teacher denied bail, sent to jail

A Dhaka court yesterday sent a geography teacher of National University to jail after rejecting his bail prayer in a case accusing him of making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members on Facebook.
Metropolitan Magistrate Tareq Mainul Islam Bhuiyan passed the order after AKM Wahiduzzaman, along with his lawyer, appeared before the court.
AB Siddiqui, 60, president of pro-Awami League Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, filed the case with a Dhaka court on October 8.
The case states that the remarks the accused posted on his Facebook account from August 22 to October 6 damaged the image of the premier and her family members at home and abroad.
The remarks, as per the case statement, says, “TV scrolls on large capital letters show Sajeeb Wazed Joy as the son of the prime minister and an IT specialist. Earlier, it showed Saima Wazed Putul as autistic specialist.
“(Joy has) turn to be an IT specialist after completing study in public administration and through giving some power point presentation while (Putul) has become an autistic specialist by rearing her own autistic child.
“Besides, the mother (Sheikh Hasina) owns one and a half dozen of doctorate degrees he he he (laughs) complete scientist family. Good for the father, who was a real scientist, needs not to see this school of scholars.”
Wahiduzzaman surrendered before the High Court on October 11 seeking anticipatory bail but the HC directed him to appear before the trial court within four weeks and seek bail, said his lawyer.
The HC also directed law enforcers not to arrest or harass him during this period.
