Non-submission of DNA report irks HC

The High Court Sunday expressed discontent as the authorities have yet to submit reports of DNA test on the relatives of missing victims of the fire incident at Tazreen Fashions Ltd that killed 112 people.

According to the three anthropologists, 37 garment workers remain missing since the deadly fire at the garment unit at Ashulia on the outskirts of the capital on November 24 last year.

Naznin Akter Banu, Saydia Gulrukh Kamal and Mahmudul Hasan Sumon filed a writ petition with the HC on April 28 seeking directives on the government to arrest and bring Tazreen owner Md Delwar Hossain to book.

While passing its order on the petition Sunday, the HC also expressed dissatisfaction over the government and the failure of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to submit reports on compensations given to the fire victims.

It gave the authorities "a last chance" to place the reports before it on September 17.

It warned the authorities concerned of stern action if they fail to comply.

Home secretary, inspector general of police and BGMEA president have been made respondents to the orders.
