Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad recalls the Rebel

It was a rainy evening; the sky was cloudy and Dhaka streets wore a the typical lazy-weekend look. In complete contrast, the Shilpakala Academy was abuzz as celebrated Nazrul singers and aficionados poured in – creating a perfect ambience to remember our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad, in association with Banglalink arranged a programme at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on May 31 evening, to celebrate the 114th birth anniversary of Nazrul.

Noted academician Dr. Salimullah Khan inaugurated the programme, titled “Kaar Bashori Baje”, while renowned Nazrul singer Shaheen Samad presided over the function. The evening was dedicated to Nazrul singer Sohrab Hossain, who passed away recently.

Following brief speeches by the guests, the cultural programme began with a rendition of “O Bhai Khati Sona'r Cheye Khati” by members of the Parishad. The singers captivated hearts by giving expression to the poet's emotions, expressed through his touching lyrics.

Organisers Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad honoured eminent Nazrul researcher Asadul Haq and noted Nazrul artiste Murshid Jahan, with the “Nazrul Award”.

The two-day programme that ended yesterday included rendition of Nazrul songs, recitation and lyrical play. Thousands of Nazrul admirers made for Shilpakala Academy -- to relive creations of the 'Bidrohi' poet.
