Musical instrument maker reaches his goal

A musical instrument maker in Jhenidah reaches his goal through his sincerity and untiring labour. He has gained name and fame by providing his instrument Aktara.
This instrument maker is Jahir Uddin, 57 son of late Nosim Mondol of Shibnagar village under Kaliganj upazila of the district.
Jahir told this correspondent that he was born in 1957. He had studied up to class four. In 1971 his father passed away. Later, he could not continue his study due to extreme poverty after his father's death. Then he had to shoulder the responsibility of maintaining his family consisting of seven members. He started to ply rickshaw for the survival of his family members. Next, he took a job in a hotel from where he got inclined in music. He at first learnt play on bamboo made flute. He was very fond of baul songs. Then he needed Aktara to perform Baul songs. He bought a Aktar from a market but it was not a quality one. So he decided to make Aktara himself.
He started to make Aktara. He bought wood, empty shell of gourd, skin and wire. He can make two aktara in a day. It costs Tk 150 per piece and sells at Tk 450 per piece. He earns Tk 6000 a month by which he can maintain his family smoothly. He can make Dotara and can tune Harmonium very well.
His quality Aktara makes way to different districts. Specially, he provides his quality Aktara to Kushtia, Manikganj and Barisal.
His some students are working in different parts in Bangladesh by making aktara. Of them Rahmat Ali of Ishwarba village under Kaliganj upazila, Hamidul Islam under sadar upazila and Rezaul Islam are worth mentioning.
Baul singer Akbor saijee of Dudshar village under Kaliganj upazila said, Jahir is a reputed quality Aktara maker. The Aktara made by him serves well. It is provided to Manikganj and Kushtia.
Jahir told that he will pass his future days in making Aktara. He is happy with his one son and daughter and wife. Jahir told that he runs his business staying at famous Harmonium maker Norod Biswas's musical instrument shop at Naldanga road of Kaliganj upazila town.
