Mollah was passively involved
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah was "passively" involved in the killing of Pallab, then student of Mirpur Bangla College, during the country's Liberation War in 1971, the additional attorney general said on Wednesday.
MK Rahman said this while placing quotes from International Crimes Tribunal's verdict against Mollah before the Supreme Court today.
Today was the second day of hearing on the government appeal filed seeking death penalty to Mollah for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.
International Crime Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) on February 5 handed down lifetime imprisonment to Mollah for his wartime offences.
The additional attorney general told the court that some notorious people including Akter Gunda, Hakka Gunda, Hasib Hasmi and Abbas Chairman dragged Pallab from Nawabpur area to Mirpur Shah Ali Majar on April 5, 1971 under the order of Quader Mollah.
The gang then took Pallab to an Eidgah ground and hanged him from tree as per the instruction of Quader Mollah, Rahman said.
Later, the six-member bench of the Appellate Division head by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain fixed Thursday for further hearing on the appeal.
At the end of today's hearing, the chief justice asked the state counsel to speed up the hearing as there is time limit for the court for disposing of the appeal in 60 days from the date of filing of an appeal.
The SC on Monday started the hearing on the government appeal filed on March 3.
On March 4, Mollah filed an appeal with the SC seeking acquittal from the charges of the case.
