MK Anwar gets bail

BNP standing committee member MK Anwar secured bail after surrendering before a Dhaka court in connection with a case filed for creating social and religious anarchy in the country.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafa Shahriar Khan granted the bail as the BNP leader appeared before the court and surrendered, seeking bail in the case.

According to the case statement, Anwar on May 6 allegedly told a press briefing at the party central office in Nayapaltan that Hefajat-e Islam did not resort to any anarchic activities including burning holy Quran, rather it were the henchmen of Awami League and its front organisations who committed the crimes outside the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and Paltan and Shapla Chattar areas.

On May 5, thousands of activists of Hefajat went on a rampage and clashed with the law enforcers in those areas of the capital.

Paltan police on May 6 filed a general diary with Paltan Police Station against BNP lawmaker MK Anwar for his statement.

Md Nasir Uddin, a sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station and also investigation officer (IO) of the case, found the authenticity of the allegations during his primary investigation and converted the general diary into a case under Information and Communication Technology Act -2006.

Later on July 17, the IO submitted the probe report before a Dhaka court alleging that the charges brought against Anwar was found as true.

On the basis of the probe report, a Dhaka court summoned MK Anwar asking to appear before it today (Thursday).
