The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Wednesday asked the prosecution to submit charges against war crimes suspect Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali on May 9.

The ICT-1 passed the order when the prosecution submitted a progress report against Kashem before the tribunal.

While submitting the report, Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon sought two more weeks for preparing the final investigation report against Kashem.

Later, the tribunal led by Justice ATM Fazle Kabir fixed the date.

Detective Branch of police arrested Kashem at the office of Bangla daily Naya Diganta at Motijheel on June 17 after the ICT-1 issued an arrest warrant against him for his alleged crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.

Kashem, a member of Jamaat central executive committee, is chairman of Diganta Media Corporation.
