Khan Ataur Rahman is an icon of Bangladeshi cinema. His films were a source of great inspiration during the movement for liberation. multitalented he was an actor, director, producer, screenplay writer, composer and singer, who established the foundation of our film industry. We remember this heroic figure of our nation on his 85th birth anniversary on December 11, 1928.

! Khan Ataur Rahman was born on December 11, 1928 in Singair, Manikganj.
! After completing BSC from Dhaka University, Khan Ata, as he was popularly known, joined Dhaka Medical College, which he soon left.
! Khan Ata had a passion for cinema from the very beginning. He ran away twice from home to join the film industry.
! Once he went to Mumbai to learn filmmaking and worked there as an apprentice.
! Later he went to London to complete higher studies in cinematography.

! Khan Ataur Rahman made his directorial debut with the film Onek Diner Chena.
! He was the maker of many notable films such as Nawab Sirajuddaula (1967), Saat Bhai Champa (1968), Arun Barun Kironmala (1968), Abar Tora Manush Ho (1973), Sujon Sokhi (1976), Ekhono Onek Raat (1997).
! Khan Ata is famous for his role in the film Jibon Theke Neya (1970), where his rendition of the song E Khacha Bhangbo Ami Kemon Kore echoes the national voice of the oppressed Bangladeshis against the West Pakistani tyranny.
! Khan Ataur Rahman was a songwriter with over 500 compositions, some of which are still popular.
! He won many national and international awards for his excellent performances such as Pakistan Film Festival Award, Nigar Award, International Film Festival award at Moscow and Tashkent and National Film Award of Bangladesh.

! Khan Ataur Rahman was a good friend of renowned artist S M Sultan. He helped Sultan with his savings to buy art materials.
! He also made arrangements for displaying and selling Sultan's paintings.
Rumana Islam, Khan Ata's daughter and his son Agun both are famous Bangladeshi singers.
! His wife Nilufar Yasmin was also a Bangladeshi singer especially famous for her Nazrul Shangeet albums.
! Khan Ata had two calling names: Tara and Anis
! This iconic movie personality died on 1st December, 1997 at the age of 69.
