Khaleque announces 31-point manifesto

The ruling alliance-backed candidate and outgoing mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque pledged to complete the unfinished development works in Khulna city as he announced part of his 31-point electoral manifesto yesterday.

Khaleque pledged in the charter that he would modernise the solar park at Sonadanga, improve sanitation facilities, construct memorials for the language martyrs, preserve monuments of the Liberation War, help establish women's rights, construct a swimming pool and playgrounds, protect rights of the ultra poor, and facilitate development of mills and factories in the Khalishpur and Rupsha areas.
The city Awami League president placed his manifesto at a press conference in Khulna Press Club where district AL President Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, city AL General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Mizan, and "Sammilito Nagorik Committee" Convener and ex-speaker Sheikh Razzak Ali, among others, spoke.
During his speech, Khaleque begged pardon of the city residents and committed to delivering his electoral promises, if elected again. “If I have misbehaved or done any wrong to any of the city dwellers during my mayorship, I apologise to them,” he said.
Mony, who recently resigned as city BNP general secretary, announced his 21-point manifesto on Wednesday, pledging to establish a committee with civil society members to ensure development of the city, ensure a corruption-free Khulna City Corporation, enlarge the city area, construct roads on priority basis, and remove waterlogging.
