TAZREEN FIRE

HC wants probe report by June 9

Factory owner appears in court

The High Court on Thursday directed the government to submit an investigation report by June 9 on a fire that killed at least 112 people at Tazreen Fashions Ltd in Ashulia on November 24 last year.

The court expressed disappointment as the government failed to submit the report on Thursday.

During today's hearing, Deputy Attorney General Bishwojit Roy told the court his office had yet to get the report from the government.

On November 25 last year, the home ministry formed a probe committee to investigate the fire incident.

The court also ordered Delwar Hossain, owner of Tazreen Fashions Ltd, to appear before it on June 9.

The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain expressed dismay on police for its failure to arrest and produce Delwar as per its May 19 order.

The court on May 19, following a writ petition, directed police to arrest Delwar and produce him before it today (May 30) to explain his stance on the November 24, 2012 fire in the factory that killed 112 people.

Appearing before the court, Delwar however said he appeared before it as a CID official asked him over telephone. He did not get any copy of the court order, he added.

The court also fixed June 9 for passing further order on the issue.
