Solo Painting Exhibition by Rafiqun Nabi
Date: 12 - 26 April
Time: 11am till 7pm
Venue: Dhaka Art Center, House 60, Road 7/A, Dhanmondi R/A
At the exhibition, Rafiqun Nabi's watercolour highlights the monsoon, splendor of mountain scenery and the scenic beauty of our country. Translucence and simplicity are the main traits of his watercolours. His ability to draw mass, volume and to create sensitive compositions is remarkable. Nabi's works are fresh and provide the spectators a sense of pleasure. His paintings are lively and have the right kind of restraint. He knows where to stop. His figures and objects are closely attached and create a unique synchronization. The artist arranges motifs in different combinations of light and shade.
Nabi likes to go into details.
Since the late 1960s, Nabi's social commitment has become more and more apparent. His creativity is intensely moved by national, social and political crises. This is also fairly reflected in his creations.

Print and painting exhibition by Howard Hodgkin
Date: Ongoing till 3rd May
Time: 11am till 6pm
Venue: Bengal Art Lounge
Hodgkin's paintings often seek to convey memories of encounters with friends and frequently carry titles alluding to specific places and events such as Dinner at West Hill (1966) and Goodbye to the Bay of Naples (198082).
Hodgkin himself has said that he paints "representational pictures of emotional situations," a statement that fixes him firmly as an advocate of the expressionist movement. His prints are etchings and he has worked with the same master printer (Jack Shirreff at 107 Workshop) and print publisher (Alan Cristea Gallery) for the last 25 years.
This exhibition by Howard Hodgkin has been made possible by the efforts of the British Council.
