A group of freedom fighters started a three-day hunger strike at the capital's Central Shaheed Minar on Monday, demanding peace in the country.
"We are very much disturbed by the present situation when crude bombs are being blasted frequently and police are opening fire without magistrate's orders," said Zafrullah Chowdhury, one of the more than fifty participants yesterday.
"Bangladesh is undergoing a politics of terrorism and looting at present. It will stop only when people take to the street," said another participant Maj (retd) Syed Munibur Rahman.
Talking to The Daily Star, spokesperson of the demonstrators Ali Ahmed Ziauddin said, "We want a real democratic state. People are falling victim for the election system stated in the present constitution. For this, we want a new constitution to be formulated."
