The family members of Bishwajit Das, whom Bangladesh Chhatra League men stabbed dead in broad daylight during an opposition-called blockade last year, demanded immediate execution of the verdict.

A Dhaka court today awarding death penalty to eight leaders and activists of BCL, the student wing of ruling Awami League, and 13 others life term for killing Das, 24, a tailor in old part of Dhaka.

"We want immediate execution of the verdict," said Uttam Kumar Das, elder brother of Das, immediately after the court pronounced the judgement in the sensational murder case.

Uttam also demanded immediate arrest of the killers who are now on the run.

Of the convicts, eight are now in jail while 13 others are on hiding.

Das was hacked to death in public on his way to his tailoring shop at Shankharibazar in Old Dhaka during the opposition’s countrywide road-blockade programme on December 9 last year.
