Families of 159 get Tk 24,000 each

Families of 159 deceased Rana Plaza victims were provided Tk 24,000 each as financial assistance under the supervision of Bangladesh Army's 9th infantry division in Morning Glory School at Savar Cantonment yesterday.
The assistance came from donations individuals and organisations deposited with a private bank account opened by Bangladesh Army and Dhaka District Administration for the victims.

Bangladesh Army confirmed by cross checking with family members, are among 329 persons who had been listed as missing.
The list was prepared by Savar Upazila Administration and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association based on claims by alleged families and relatives.
The 102 are also among 157 persons whose identities were confirmed through DNA tests at National Forensic DNA Profiling Laboratory. The 157 are among another list of 322 unidentified victims prepared by the labour and employment ministry.
Since the 159 remains to be identified through DNA tests, their families had not received any form of compensation till yesterday. However, families of the 102 were due to get Tk 2 lakh to Tk 5 lakh from the prime minister's relief fund.
Rana Plaza, a building that housed five garment factories in Savar, collapsed on April 24 killing 1,134 people.
