Dr Abdullah Faruque Dead

Noted economist and a professor of Dhaka University's Marketing Department Dr Abdullah Faruque died at his Uttara residence on Friday. He was 70, reports UNB. Dr Faruque was suffering from liver cancer. He left behind his wife, two sons, two daughters and a host of relatives. In his long career, Dr Faruque held various important posts. He was the treasurer of Dhaka University, Member of Planning Commission, and Chairman of Janata Bank, Bangladesh Shilpa Rin Sangstha and Jiban Bima Corporation.

He also served as the president of Bangladesh Economic Association and Asiatic Society, Chairman of Marketing Department, Dean of Commerce Faculty, Chairman and Director of Economic Research Bureau and Chairman of Business Studies Bureau of the university. His qulkhwani will be held tomorrow at his residence at House-21, Road-12, Sector-4, Uttara. Obituary Khurshed Ara Hakim, widow of eminent educationist and mathematician Prof Dr Ataul Hakim, died in the city on Friday. She was 94, says a press release. She left behind two sons, four daughters, and several grandchildren. Her qulkhwani will be held after Asr prayers tomorrow at the residence of her son Anwarul Hakim at 16/F Tallabagh, Sobhanbag.
