Divisional round held in Barisal

The Daily Star Spelling Bee yesterday saw a hard-fought Divisional Round contest at Barisal Medical College auditorium.
About 100 students, who passed the Online Round of 12,375 spellers, took part in the written section of the round.
Participants had to spell 25 words in as many minutes. The host uttered the words along with four clues -- English and Bengali meanings, part of speech and use in a sentence. The spellers then wrote down the words. Five more minutes were allocated for revision.
Barisal Cadet School pulled off an impressive performance as it secured 16 spots out of 19 for the oral round.
It took three rounds and two tiebreakers to pick the top three spellers of Barisal Division.
