Dinat Jahan Munni: A gifted singer
What are you busy with right now?
Munni: I host a show on Maasranga Television three-four days a week, as well as hosting a BTV show called “Gaan Chirodin”. I have other playback and stage show obligations as well.
During your 16 years in the media, to what extent have your expectations been fulfilled?
Munni: I was quite frustrated till four years ago. Now I feel that I'm doing what I planned. In contrast to my expectations, the achievements are more than a handful. All the love of my listeners is a huge gain.
How much does glamour matter to a singer?
Munni: There is a need for that, but it's not mandatory. You should notice that I've never made a music video. What I've done instead is sing for variety shows like “Aajkal” and “Panchforon”. I feel that it doesn't hurt a singer to be glamorous, but it's not essential either. The voice is the key. The hearts of the listeners can be won over with a good voice.
How many playbacks have you done?
Munni: Around 170-180. I last sang for the film “Purno Doirgho Premkahini”, in which Jaya Ahsan will be lip-syncing to my voice.
Did you always want to be an artiste?
Munni: I always had that intention. I started hosting shows upon requests from directors, but now it has also become my profession. The interesting thing is that when I go to a show to sing, the organisers also ask me to host a part of the programme. And I don't mind fulfilling their requests. I always had the yearning to become an artiste.
Who was your inspiration on the singing front?
Munni: Both my parents were music enthusiasts. In my early years, it was however my mother who always took me to singing competitions, which heightened my interest in music.
Who were your mentors?
Munni: I trained under Humayun Kabir, then later Khondokar Nurul Alam and Ustad Sanjib Dey.
