A 12-year-old schoolboy, who was tied to a tree and tortured inhumanly allegedly by an elderly man in Chakoria upazila, is now undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.

The incident took place at Purba Dumakhali road on Saturday, said Officer-in-Charge Baktiar Uddin Chowdhury of Chakoria Police Station.

The injured is Harunur Rashid, a Class VII student of Malumghat Model Public School in the upazila.

The victim's father Md Abu Salek of Dumkhali village is vice president of Ward Jubo League in Dulahazara union.

Salek filed a case with Chakoria Police Station, accusing Jasim Uddin, 50, of the area.

On Saturday morning, Rashid along with his friends went to the road near Purba Dumkhali Social Forestation.

Salek alleged that Jasim, son of late Mohammad Ali, chased the children who were playing there.

At one stage, Jasim tied Harun with rope made of creepers and tied him to a tree. He kicked and punched the boy. Harun's nose started bleeding. Jasim fled sensing the presence of two locals coming on a motorcycle on the road.

Later, injured Harun was taken to the health complex, said the OC.
