Three sued for raping girl

Three youths were sued yesterday on an allegation of raping a tenth grader in Madhupur upazila of the district on August 15.

Victim's father filed the case with Madhupur Police Station against Arif Hossain, 20, Shafiqul Islam, 30, and Anwar Hossain, 30, of Mohishmara Mondolpara village.

Police registered the case and sent the girl to Tangail General Hospital for medical tests, said Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam.

Victim's father alleged that the accused forcibly took her tenth grader daughter to an orchard when she was going to her aunt's house and raped her.

Later, local UP member Muslim Uddin and the village elders asked him not to file any case assuring him of resolving the matter through an arbitration, he said.

Finally, the village elders at an arbitration on September 2 decided that one of the three youths (Arif Hossain) will have to marry the girl after giving her Tk 5 lakh in cash and 30 decimals of lands.

The arbitration was foiled when Arif's family refused to accept the decision, he said, adding that the arbitration was held at the UP member's house.
