'Punish attackers of journalists'

Journalists in different districts across the country yesterday formed human chains and held rallies demanding punishment of the criminals who attacked newsmen covering the recent students' movement for road safety.

Over a hundred journalists from different print and electronic media took part at a human chain in front of Tangail Press Club.

Speakers at the programme condemned the brutal attack on the journalists while they were performing professional duty. 

They warned of tougher agitation if the attackers are not brought to book in a short time.

They urged journalists for performing their professional duties properly so that the plan of the vested quarters that attacked the newsmen does not succeed.  

They criticised the information minister for 'not standing beside' the tortured journalists.

Journalists took part at a human chain in front of Mymensingh Press Club.

Speakers at the programme urged the government to take steps for preventing attacks on the newsmen for the sake of ensuring press freedom.

Journalists formed a human chain in front of Rangpur Press Club demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the attackers on their colleagues.

The speakers at the programme urged the law enforcers to identify the helmet wearing goons who attacked the journalists.

They also demanded immediate release of eminent photojournalist Shahidul Alam.

Journalists participated at a rally in Khagrachhari town demanding steps for security of journalists.

Representatives from several socio-cultural organisations and NGOs attended the programme, expressing solidarity with the newsmen's demands.

Rajshahi Union of Journalists formed a human chain in the city's Alupotti area demanding exemplary punishment of the goons who attacked journalists when the latter were covering the students' protest programmes for safe roads.

The speakers at the programme condemned the law enforcers for failure to ensure security of the newsmen during the incidents.

Journalists in Jhenidah staged a demonstration and formed a human chain at Post Office More in the town demanding punishment of the attackers on the journalists.

Under the banner of Pirojpur Reporters' Unity, a human chain was formed in Club Road area of Pirojpur town.

The speakers demanded exemplary punishment of the attackers on journalists in Dhaka and different areas of the country.
