Prisoner held in narcotics case flees from Ctg court

A prisoner today fled from a Chittagong court premises after he was produced before it in a narcotics case filed with Akbar Shah Police Station.

The accused, Masud Rana, fled from in front of the room of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (Prosecution) on the first floor of the court building around 1:40pm, said Assistant Commissioner (AC) (Prosecution) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).

Masud Rana and two others were arrested earlier by police from Akbar Shah Police Station in connection with the recovery of 100 pieces of yaba pills from their possession, AC Shahabuddin said.

Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Fakhrul Islam, also a sub-inspector (SI) of the police station, today produced the trio before a metropolitan magistrate seeking remand of the arrestees.

After hearing, the court ordered the IO to interrogate the accused in the room of ADC (Prosecution), said AC Shahabuddin, adding that when Masud’s handcuffs were removed on the way, he immediately fled from the scene.

Police arrested three persons including Masud Rana in connection with possession of some yaba pills few days ago, said Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah Police Station.

A Chittagong court sent the trio to jail in the case, the OC said.

The court also fixed today for hearing after police prayed for remand of the arrestees in the case, he also said.  

“Departmental action will be taken against SI Fakhrul if his negligence is found in this regard,” the OC added.
