Five Tangail JP men sent to jail

A court here yesterday sent five leaders and activists of Jatiya Party (JP-Ershad) Tangail district unit in a case for giving death threat to a fellow party leader.

Tangail Chief Judicial Magistrate Abul Mansur Miah gave the order after rejecting the bail petitions when the accused surrendered before the trial court and sought bail.

On August 3, former JP district unit President Abdus Salam Chakladar filed a case against JP district unit General Secretary Mozammel Haque, its Joint Secretary Syed Shamsujjoha Jubaraj, Mozammel's son Mobin Haque, and JP activists Razu and Sunny for giving him death threat and demanding extortion, Court Inspector Anwarul Islam said.

Later, the High Court (HC) granted them bail for four weeks in the case and asked them to surrender on expiry on their bail period that ended two days ago, the inspector said.

Meanwhile, a faction of JP leaders and activists brought out a procession and held a rally at Shaheed Minar premises in the town, demanding withdrawal of the case and release of their fellow party men.
