Sacked DB police officer arrested with 10,000 yaba tablets

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday arrested a terminated officer of the Detective Branch of police and his driver with 10,000 yaba tablets in Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj.

Tk 2.83 lakh collected by selling the contraband drug, a car, a DB police jacket and a police ID card were also seized from sacked assistant sub-inspector Salauddin and his driver Rony, said Rab.

A Rab team conducted a drive on information that Salauddin was staying in Siddhirganj Mouchak area to receive a huge consignment of yaba pills from Teknaf, said Maj Ashique Billah, acting commander of Rab-11, at a press conference at its headquarters in Adamjee area.

Salauddin had been on the run since he was fired on charges of drug peddling about eight months ago, said the Rab official.

On July 23, Rab raided his two rented houses in Narayangnaj city and arrested his accomplice named Sumon with 5,620 yaba pills and Tk 9 lakh collected from narcotics sale. But Sumon managed to flee, he said. Later, Rab filed two cases against him.

During primary interrogation, Sumon admitted that while he was working as a detective in Narayanganj he developed connections with some narcotics traders in Teknaf, said Maj Ashique Billah.
