Rice sale at Tk 10 per kg begins

The government began selling rice at Tk 10 per kg to 50 lakh ultra-poor families across the country yesterday, aimed at keeping the rice market stable.

“A family having five members can buy maximum 30kgs of rice a month. A total of 2.5 crore people of the country will get the opportunity under the programme.” Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam told BSS.

People from lower income groups can buy the rice during the five lean months – March, April, September, October and November under the social safety net scheme.
