Japan will provide around 2.7 billion yen grant aid to Bangladesh for coastal rescue boats, aiming at improving rescue capacities in the coastal and inland water areas.

In this regard, a signing ceremony for a project was held at Economic Relations Division (ERD) of Ministry of Finance on Sunday, says a press release.

Hiroyasu Izumi, ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh and Kazi Shofiqul Azam, secretary to ERD signed an exchange of notes representing respective governments.

A number of large and small rivers flow through Bangladesh where transportation has been developed.

On the other hand, large scale natural disasters and vessel accidents have occurred at different times in the country's inland water and coastal areas. Many casualties have been reported. The financial cooperation came against the backdrop of such situation.
