Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said, “Relations between Bangladesh and India have now reached a new height as both the countries duly value each other.”

The prime minister said this when Dr Anindya Gopal Mitra, state executive member and adviser to BJP president in West Bengal of India, met her at her office.

Briefing reporters following the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Dr Mitra also echoed the PM's observation made on the Indo-Bangla relationship.

Hasina told Dr Mitra that the people of Bangladesh always express their gratitude towards the people and government of India for their all-out support to Bangladesh and its people during the Liberation War in 1971.

After the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15 in 1975, the history of the country was distorted. "One generation was completely kept in the dark about the country's history," she said.

The prime minister also said the new generation of the country is very much aware of that and now they have learned the real history.
