Traffic Week: Over Tk 1 crore collected as fines till 3rd day

Law enforcers so far have collected over Tk one crore from different vehicles for breaking traffic rules in the first three days of the ongoing Traffic Week till today.

Since Sunday, traffic police have lodged cases against 58,549 vehicles for violating traffic rules in six metropolitan police areas, Mohammad Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of Police Headquarters told The Daily Star.

“A total of Tk 1,91,90,095 have been fined to different vehicles for different violations of rule including driving on the wrong side of roads, using hydraulic horns and not having driving licenses and proper fitness certificates,” he said.

Legal actions have already been taken against 15,389 drivers for not carrying proper documents with them at the time of plying on the roads, he added.

About 1,870 transports were seized till today, the police official added.

The drive will continue till August 11.
