Amir Khasru challenges ACC notices

BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury yesterday filed a writ petition with the High Court (HC), challenging the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) notices that ordered him to appear before it for interrogation over graft allegations.

The petition sought stay on the ACC notices, as those were not issued in accordance with the law, Amir Khasru's lawyer Barrister Abdullah Al Mahmud Masud said.

On August 16, the anti-graft watchdog in a notice asked BNP leader Amir Khasru to appear before it on August 28 for interrogation over corruption allegations.

On August 28, Amir Khasru sought one month's time from ACC for collecting necessary documents in this regard.

The same day, ACC granted his petition and issued another notice asking him to appear before the commission at 10:00am on September 10.

“If you fail to appear on the scheduled date, actions will be taken against you as per the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004,” the ACC said in the notice.

The HC may hold hearing on the writ petition today, the lawyer added.
