All secondary-level students to get unique ID cards

Ecnec approves projects worth Tk 2,775 crore

The government is going to provide numbered ID cards to all students at secondary level to introduce a better tracking system.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) in a meeting yesterday approved a project called “Establishment of Integrated Educational Information Management System” at a cost of Tk 313 crore.

According to the project proposal, the integrated system will be established for students and teachers.

Civil registration and vital statistics of students from sixth to tenth grade will be included in their profiles.

According to the project proposal, a coordinated software for all education boards will be designed, through which results will be published. 

At present, results are published with the cooperation of BUET through Teletalk.

Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBEIS) will implement the project by June 2020. For the purpose they will design a number of software and hardware.

At yesterday's meeting, Ecnec also approved 8 other projects at a cost of Tk 2,775 crore.

It approved a Tk 658 crore project for installing 8,50,000 smart pre-payment metres in Dhaka and Narayanganj city corporation areas.

Under the project, the pre-payment metres will be set up in Ramna, Jigatola, Dhanmondi, Adabor, Paribagh, Kakrail, Banasree, Moghbazar, Shyamoli, Kamrangir Char, Bangla Bazar, Narinda, Postogola and Demra under Dhaka City Corporation; and Fatullah, Sitalakhya and Shiddhirganj in Narayanganj.

Ecnec also approved another Tk 155 crore project for extending the capacity of Police's data centre. Under the project, various online applications will be designed and existing ones updated for improving electronic policing system.

Ecnec approved another project, “Development of living standards of marginalised people in urban areas”, at a cost of Tk 826 crore.

Under the project, the government will provide housing and loans to 20,000 ultra-poor families in city corporations and municipal areas.

DFID and UNDP will provide about Tk 698 crore of the budget as grants, with the government providing the rest. The project's tenure will be till 2023.

According to the project proposal, 5,000 ultra-poor families will each be given a two-room flat free of cost, while 15,000 destitute families will be given interest-free loans under community housing development fund.

The flats and house building facilities will be given to residents of 11 city corporations and 25 municipalities, particularly those located along coastal areas at high risk of being affected by climate change, according to a planning ministry official.

Ecnec also approved five projects for development of roads in different areas of the country.
