War crimes convict Abdul Alim’s son on Wednesday claimed that the court awarded imprisonment till death to his father based on false and fabricated charges.

The International Crimes Tribuanl-2 sentenced jail till death to Alim, also a former BNP minister, for committing genocide and crimes against humanity during Liberation War of the country in 1971.

“Our father was in hiding, far from Joypurhat in 1971,” Sazzad Bin Alim said in his immediate reaction after the verdict.

“My mother had been suffering from cancer during Liberation War. We were little kids then and he (Alim) used to take care of us,” Sazzad was quoted as saying by private television channel Ekattor Television outside the ICT-2.

Sazzad was a defence witness of Alim's war crimes case.
